BOREDOM IS A CHOICE

There’s a biblical saying, “that idle hands are the devil’s workshop.” It’s generally used to reference children or teens when we want to keep them from doing something stupid. Well, “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”

For the most part, we know when our children are bored because they’ll say, “I’m bored!” To which we immediately begin to assigning tasks, “read a book, clean your room, wash your clothes, are just a few things we quip. What we’re saying, without saying it is boredom is a choice, so do something.

And yet, for adults our boredom may manifest into some unhealthy choices. While we hold our children accountable who holds us accountable? I don’t know about you, but I’ve made the most unhealthy choices during my idle time. It ran the gamut, everything from poor food choices, to over spending, to initiating text to an ex, or just watching tv for hours on end. Rarely had my boredom netted me good results.

This is where and when creating a list of goals and activities can come in handy via a Bored? Not Anymore Jar.

What is a Bored? Not Anymore Jar.

It’s a jar that consist of various activities. You can arranged the activities by categories using colored paper, wooden coins, or popsicles which represent either an indoor or outdoor activities. There’s no limit to what it can include, everything from household projects, baking, playing games, exercise, reading, organizing, writing letters to friends, going to the museum, bike riding, or picnic in the park.

By choosing something to do from your bored jar you’re likely to make a connection with someone, accomplish something that you’ve put off, and at least you can save yourself from adding extra inches to your waistline...step away from the ice cream or whatever your vice is when you’re bored.

Remember being bored is a choice. Choose differently!
